Northgate Lodge is an all season equestrian centre offering year round events and facilities for hire.
Located at 38 Kokopu Block Road, Maungatapere, Whangarei, we have an 80x40m fibre surface arena with a full set of showjumps.
Available adjacent to the arena, are covered/uncovered yards & a soap free hose down area.
We have a lovely 4km ride through a beautiful avocado orchard, complete with several cross country jumps.
Joanne is also available for lessons with your own horse and we have Workout Wednesdays - small group lessons focusing on flatwork, poles and grids.
She also runs a small boutique riding school offering private and group lessons to children and adults.
Children will be able to attend school holiday camps and be involved in flat and jumping lessons, orchard riding, horse care, games and loads of fun and for those not quite as youthful, Adult Retreat weekends for those who enjoy lessons and socializing with friends.
The venue will also be available for a limited number of events held by other organisations. The ability to hold clinics and riding lessons is also an option. Visiting farriers, dentists, veterinarians and other health professionals may also use the venue as a gathering point.
Northgate Lodge is a family property run by Don & Joanne Thomas, having moved from the original location Northgate Lodge, Ruakaka in 2022 after nearly 8 years of building the equestrian centre into the community it is today.
Joanne is passionate about all things equestrian and has a wealth of knowledge & experience behind her, through her 20+ year career in education and lifetime of caring for & competing horses. She is a List 2 RAS judge, Senior National Show Hunter judge, chief measuring steward, previous dressage judge and former RDA coach here in Whangarei.
Donald is a semi-retired vet, now spending most of his time in the avocado orchard so you may see him around.
They have 2 adult daughters and a teenage son, Hudson.
